Oil set: organic extra-virgin olive oils of the highest quality.

Set d’oli

One of the first companies we started working with in our Made in Spain Gourmet development was Set d’Oli. We fell in love with their way of thinking, because we saw it matched their way of doing things. Their goal is simple: to make the best possible Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). And they do. The Set d’Oli family are passionate about all things Mediterranean: they respect nature’s timing, are committed to craftsmanship, and love their work. These are the credentials—the true DNA—of Set d’Oli, owner of the brands Set & Ros and Rocarell, which you can find on Made in Spain Gourmet in the Premium EVOO category for the most demanding gourmets.

A microclimate for producing a unique EVOO

Their owners, Montse Pinent and Albert Farré, complement each other perfectly, each with a clearly defined role in the business: Montse is the commercial and public-relations engine who develops the brand and its value, while Albert is the artist who knows the olive trees and their fruit, deciding which oils can be sold and how they should be categorized. Since the beginning, Set d’Oli has practiced organic farming on all their olive estates. Located around 450 meters above sea level in the Tarragona pre-coastal area (between the comarques of Baix Penedès and Alt Camp), about 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast but strongly influenced by the sea, they benefit from a privileged climate. Albert is not a conventional producer; he loves the land and feels it deeply. He combines modern and traditional working methods, which allows him to obtain extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality. Next to their estates they have a modern oil mill, which lets them begin crushing immediately after harvest and therefore extract the maximum flavor from their oils. They can truly say they carry out the entire EVOO production cycle. The oils come from 100% organic production, selected beforehand through successive tastings and blends. These are high-end (Premium EVOO), limited-production oils made from four olive varieties: starting with Arbequina, fruity and very delicate; the Cornicabra, which yields a very aromatic oil; the Hojiblanca, fruity and complex; and finally the Picual, which produces oil with strong personality and body.

The secret of their quality: controlling the entire process

They are a family business that knows what it wants to offer and how to achieve it. The exceptional quality of their EVOO is due to their ability to control the whole production process, from the soil to marketing. They take pleasure in knowing that their customers return year after year because they have found an exceptional and unique EVOO. These are organic EVOOs with character and exceptional flavor thanks to factors such as the production area, the Mediterranean climate full of contrasts; the quality of the soil: poor, stony soils of slate and granite; and the strong winds that shake the branches year-round, combined with organic olive farming and a mix of modern and traditional working methods. The final result is an extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality, 100% natural.

The process behind their oils

Alongside their estates they have a modern oil mill, which allows them to begin the extraction process a few hours after harvest, when the olive reaches the ideal temperature—a very important factor to obtain an extra virgin olive oil with the best qualities. The olives are harvested at different times across the estates to guarantee the optimal point of ripeness for each lot. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild, rainy winters and dry, hot summers, ensures that all the brand’s oils are of exceptional quality. Harvesting is carried out from late October until mid-December, thus achieving different stages of fruit ripening. Within the brand there are exclusive single-varietal oils under the name Ros Caubó, and Rocarell, which is also an organic Arbequina single-varietal.

Ros Caubó

Under this name you’ll find their exclusive organic monovarietals: Arbequina, Cornicabra, Hojiblanca and Picual. These oils are extracted from olives previously selected by owner Albert Farré from the estates between the sea and the Sierra de Jordá—where the Arbequinas come from—and also from Andalusia and other parts of the peninsula, from which the other varieties are sourced, followed by tastings and blends of the different batches at the mill. The Arbequina is fruity with notes of olive and other fruits such as apple, banana and almond, with a hint of sweetness and no bitterness or pungency. The Cornicabra is very aromatic with olive and other fruit notes, in which apple stands out. On the palate you can perceive herbaceous notes of olive leaf; the bitterness is light and the pungency somewhat more intense—perfect for pairing with good tomatoes. The Hojiblanca is the mildest of all; very fruity and complex, it is characterized by notes of freshly cut grass, alloza, artichoke, aromatic herbs and green fruits. Its entry on the palate is sweet, finishing with a slight bitterness and a very localized pungency. Finally, the Picual has great personality, lots of body, and a high score for “green olive fruitiness”; you can detect olive leaf and a slight characteristic pungency and bitterness from this variety. Depending on ripeness, tomato and fig leaf notes also emerge with lesser intensity.

Rocarell

This is an organic Arbequina single-varietal EVOO, whose olives come from several estates across three zones between Alt Camp and Baix Camp. As in the previous case, the fruits are harvested at different times to always guarantee optimal ripeness. The result is an excellent organic extra virgin olive oil: round, balanced, mild in flavor, with a very pleasant fruity note on the palate and the nose.

Set d’Oli: the new corporate brand

Under this name and image the new organic extra virgin olive oils from the brand will be presented. It is a shift toward a new commercial strategy that we will gradually unveil in the coming months. What I can guarantee today is that their oils are among the best in Spain and that we are very proud to represent them in markets such as the U.S., where we hope to win over consumers during 2024. Demand for organic, top-quality products leaves a wonderful opportunity to be filled by the Spanish gourmet products we represent. And Set d’Oli is one of ours. Pure, professional, and very good people.
