Veggie Karma — vegan cheeses from another dimension

Vegan Cheeses

Their two founders have a very clear mission centered on the greatest possible respect—not just for animals. They promote a positive rather than harmful impact, always follow a sustainability philosophy, and invite everyone to eat healthier. Veggie Karma is the bet we have at MadeinSpain.store for vegan cheeses that go beyond this single characteristic. Their values align with ours and, of course, they produce outstanding, otherworldly products. Discover everything this company offers.

Franco‑Italian roots

It's curious that, although it is a Catalan company, the founders of Veggie Karma are not Spanish as such, but come from two different European countries. Two countries that, it must be said, have a long-standing tradition and love for cheese. You can find a wide variety and even an extensive catalogue of this food in Italian and French cuisines. So yes, the union between an Italian—Giovanni—and a Frenchman—Julien—gave rise to the company located on Passeig de l’Havana in the city of Barcelona. This fusion brings together two artisans who are especially conscious of the world we live in. They wanted to contribute their grain of sand to the good causes affecting animals, the environment and people. They are achieving this through a very varied range of cheese substitutes (since they are not made from milk). From sourcing the raw materials to delivering the product to your home, the process is tightly controlled to follow the philosophy both founders share. Also, they never give up on gastronomic pleasure because another concept they promote is being gourmand. A French word that describes people eager for the most delicious delicacies. So their products, with a unique taste, are aimed at consumers who want to delight their palates. Do you also want to enjoy the experience Veggie Karma offers? First, let’s learn more about the company.

The philosophy of utmost respect

Both Giovanni and Julien share, through their small company, values that are increasingly prominent in the food sector. First, their creations are healthy because they use probiotics and fermentates along with ingredients rich in vitamins and minerals. A prime example is the main ingredient they use in their products: lupin, cultivated in Spain. Thanks to the benefits of fermentation, they can avoid additives like colorings, preservatives and thickeners. Their products also contain no salt or sugar and even have organic and gluten‑free certification. But this commitment to promoting healthier eating is not the only one.

Animal, environmental and social commitment

On one hand, all the raw materials and ferments they use do not come from animals but from plants. They believe in the (responsible, of course) consumption of these types of foods. But always trying not to harm the planet, so almost all their ingredients are locally sourced. They turn to the national—and especially local—market in search of the raw materials they buy in bulk, while benefiting nearby producers. This reduces pollutants from both packaging and transport. Currently they make one exception to this: the cashews they buy are imported but from fair trade sources. They come from farms in Senegal. That sustainable philosophy is also maintained at Veggie Karma in their production processes and product packaging. They use renewable energy suppliers, generate no food waste, and do not use plastics, opting instead for recyclable and compostable materials. Labels are printed on mineral paper and they even note that they return packaging to their suppliers for reuse. A respect for the environment they further elevate by using electric vehicles for deliveries of orders in the city of Barcelona via the cooperative Mensaka. Finally, if all the values they represent seemed very positive to you, there’s more: they are committed to fair economic compensation for producers. So they avoid intermediaries within Spain and, outside our country, choose partners who are responsible in that regard. What more could you ask for?

Fermentation and lupin: two keys at Veggie Karma

One thing that comes to mind for us: delicious, creamy vegan cheeses. Exactly what this Catalan company’s products—available in our store—are like. You can choose from several types, but in any case we should talk about the key technique at Veggie Karma. It’s fermentation, which sets them apart and gives them unique flavors while providing numerous health benefits. On the other hand, a superfood that is unknown in some parts of Spain but cultivated in other Spanish regions is the company’s major bet. Lupin has twice the protein of chickpeas, plus minerals, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 and C, and even dietary fiber that can be soluble or insoluble. Therefore, it is a very nutritious plant with very little fat and a good amount of essential fatty acids.

Buy their cheeses

How can you take advantage of the excellent benefits of both fermentation and lupins? We’ll answer that: by buying one of the three different semi‑cured vegan cheeses we carry (with Provençal herbs, with walnuts and pink pepper, or with smoked sweet paprika). You can also choose the Sant Andreu, a named cheese coated in poppy seeds, or the Karmesano, an ideal substitute for the famous Parmesan. Another original option is the jar of Lover Dose cubes in oil, with sun‑dried tomatoes and thyme. Now that you know Veggie Karma and their vegan cheeses in depth, all that’s left is to taste them from MadeinSpain.store. Join the highest standard of animal, environmental and social responsibility!
