La Rioja, a universal brand

La Rioja

If we think of wines from Spain, the first thing that comes to mind is La Rioja. This region is world-renowned and is one of those gems that in Made in Spain Gourmet we seek to protect. For its orography, its wineries, but as always, also for its people. The winemakers we have selected for our online shop share a deep love for their land, whether by birth or by adoption, and that respect is evident in the quality of their wines. That is why they are our best sellers. A small selection of them is represented here today. They are a guarantee of quality to enjoy at any time.

XF Sierra Cantabria

XF Sierra Cantabria is simply one of the best young rosé wines in Spain, produced by Sierra Cantabria and Xandra Falcó. The most notable characteristic of this rosé is that it is a blend of grape varieties—no fewer than five: Tempranillo and Garnacha, and whites, Sauvignon Blanc, Viura and Maturana. All come from vineyards owned by Sierra Cantabria. These are vineyards farmed with environmentally respectful viticulture and minimal intervention so the grapes can express the full personality of the terroir. XF Sierra Cantabria Rosado is made in the traditional way and has a limited production of 15,000 bottles. Pair it with fish and seafood rice dishes, pastas, and fish such as salmon. Peña el Gato

Peña El Gato Garnachas Viejas is a red wine produced in the D.O.C. Rioja by the winery Juan Carlos Sancha in Baños del Río Tobía, La Rioja. Peña El Gato Garnachas Viejas comes from a 95-year-old old-vine Garnacha vineyard located at 750 meters above sea level on shallow clay-limestone soils. It was one of those discoveries thanks to people like Amelia, an expert in wines and oenological experiences in Rioja. It is 100% single-varietal Garnacha with a strong aroma of red fruit, raspberry in particular. We recommend pairing it with stews, red meats, and aged sheep or goat cheeses. A delight of a wine. Muga Reserva  Selección Especial

Muga Reserva Selección Especial is a blend of the varieties Tempranillo (70%), Garnacha (20%), Mazuelo (7%) and Graciano (3%). From one of the Rioja families with the most tradition and worldwide recognition. It is a great red wine with an intense red color. On the nose you can find notes of ripe red fruits, spices (pepper) and undergrowth; also standing out is the full range of coffee aromas: caramel macchiato, toasted coffee, and well-integrated oak. We recommend pairing it with red meats, lamb, and also grilled fish. Sublime. Remirez de Ganuza Reserva

The Remírez de Ganuza Gran Reserva reflects the essence of the winery. It is made from the shoulders of the best clusters—only those coming from vineyards with an average age of 60 years. Both fermentation and aging are always carried out in new barrels. What is sought year after year in the making of this wine is that it be a faithful reflection of its vintage. A privilege within reach of very few. Limited to a little over 2,000 bottles, it is a selection of the best vineyards and barrels with an extended aging of about 3 years which, contrary to what one might expect, yields a very fruity red, with the toast of the oak perfectly melding into the fruit. A true gem. Pair it with a good bone-in rib steak, suckling lamb or roast suckling pig.
