Israel Romero / Wednesday, October 5, 2022 / Categories: Spanish Brands La Romana, a white wine from Can Bas — a xarel·lo in its fullest expression. La Romana de Can Bas As with everything produced within the Grupo Pere Ventura, the pursuit of excellence is the primary objective. Pere Ventura is one of the most select companies in the Penedés (Barcelona), synonymous with elegance, style and exclusivity, and with a strongly international vocation; consequently, they are already present in more than 50 countries, exporting over 90% of their production. The brand Can Bas identifies the wines of the Penedés and the winemaking estate, dating back to 1668. Its image is different, original and unique, offering an inimitable presentation that speaks for the product and the values that inspire it: quality, elegance, distinction and exclusivity. Frankly, we are very proud to share the philosophy and good taste for doing things exquisitely. We are convinced that their products will be recognized worldwide soon. And with Made in Spain Gourmet they will surely achieve it. The grapes used to make La Romana come from an old xarel·lo vineyard with low yields, although demanding in its care. Its name comes from the Roman remains found nearby: the Via Augusta and the luxurious villa that grew during the Roman Empire. A vineyard, La Romana, that today is the mother and namesake of a very special terroir-driven wine. Perhaps more than any other, the white La Romana reflects how Can Bas thinks and crafts its wines: history, terroir, respect, contemporaneity, excellence… La Romana is not a closed wine. It is not a wine that can be exactly repeated each year, since its personality always refers back to the xarel·lo harvested in that vineyard full of Roman vestiges. Nevertheless, that does not prevent us from pairing it with some of the white varieties of Can Bas. The wine obtained by blending Chardonnay with the xarel·lo from the La Romana vineyard results in: a creamy, intense, long, noble and interesting white. Visually, it shows a transparent, warm yellow, without stridency. On the nose, we appreciate a balanced combination between clustered fruit and forest-like notes coming from the oak. On the palate it surprises: the entry is light, the texture pleasant, the aromas consistent and its persistence calls for memory. La Romana pairs very well with oysters, shellfish, as well as white fish (cod, sea bream, John Dory, hake, monkfish, sea bass, corvina, gilt-head bream, sole and turbot). Winemaking Manual harvest and selection in the vineyard and later on the sorting table. The grapes are loaded into crates and refrigerated for 24 hours at about 10 ºC. Destemming to avoid herbaceous and bitter notes. Gentle pressing with low yields. Fermentation of the different varieties separately at 15 ºC. Part of the must resulting from the blend of the two varieties is fermented in 500-liter French oak barrels for six months to increase the wine’s complexity. During the aging and fermentation process, clay jars are also used. It is a discovery we came across in 2020, and since then our Made in Spain lovers, especially international customers, have enjoyed it and therefore buy it from our website very often. We deliver it to your home, and you just have to enjoy it. DNA Made in Spain Gourmet Product quality above all else.
